IEEE Learning Technology Standards Committee (LTSC): Chartered by the IEEE Computer Society Standards Activity Board, the LTSC works to develop internationally accredited technical standards, recommended practices, and guides to learning technology. In addition to standards developed directly, the LTSC also manages standardization of specifications developed by other organizations.
Standards
| Standard | Description | Types | Data Layers | Ed Levels |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IEEE Defining Competencies (IEEE 1484.20.2) | **IEEE Recommended Practice for Defining Competencies (IEEE 1484.20.2):** Recommended practices are given for defining the kinds of information that IEEE 1484.20.3-2023 encodes as interoperable data, i.e., data that defines a skill, knowledge, ability, attitude, habit of practice, behavior, or learning outcome. | LMT IEEE 2881 | **IEEE Standard for Learning Metadata Terms (IEEE 2881):** New and existing metadata terms were contextualized around learning and bundled to address many common use cases of metadata, resulting in the formation of this standard. A series of classes and properties that intentionally align to a Resource Description Framework (RDF) type of model, which can be represented in many formats, including graphs, is described by this standard. It centers around different types of Learning Resources and Learning Events, distinguishing between the two as both were often previously categorized as Learning Objects. An extensible data model that focuses on the principles of sharing learning resources in a learning environment and describing learning events, sometimes “instances” of learning resources that learners may attend (virtually or in-person), is described by this standard. | LOM | Learning Object Metadata: A schema for metadata that describes learning objects and resources. (more) |

| SCD | Sharable Competency Definition: This standard includes an extensible data model with key classes: Competency Framework, Competency Definition, Resource Association, Rubric, Rubric Criterion, Rubric Criterion Level and the relationships between them. Open source resources include a JSON-LD Context file and examples. (more) |
